Albany Superintendent Kaweeda Adams "Devastated" By Aid Reduction

Albany City Schools Superintendent Kaweeda Adams
City School District Of Albany

The Albany City School District, like many other districts in New York, is facing mass layoffs because of a 20 percent reduction in state aid brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a $23 million funding gap, Albany is considering laying off 222 employees and moving most students in grades 7 to 12 to a virtual-only model.

Sharing what she hopes will happen when students classes in less than two weeks, Albany City Schools Superintendent Kaweeda Adams spoke Friday with WAMC’s Lucas Willard.

Lucas Willard is the Executive Producer of WAMC's Northeast Notebook. After joining the station in 2011, Lucas has held several titles at WAMC, including Berkshire Bureau Chief, Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief, and Assistant News Director.
