Advocacy Group Opposes Paid Family Leave Bill

Voices for Vermont’s Children, a group that has been advocating for the state to pass and implement a paid family leave bill, announced on Monday it will not support the bill currently in the legislature.
Last week the Vermont Senate approved a paid family leave bill and advanced the measure to the House.  The bill provides up to 12 weeks of paid leave for the birth of a newborn or an adoption. It would use a 0.2% payroll tax on most workers to fund the benefit.

Voices for Vermont’s Children says it opposes the current version because although it has strong provisions for equitable family leave it does not guarantee coverage for individual workers that need to take time off.

Republican Governor Phil Scott has said he supports a voluntary leave program.
