Election For Kerry's Senate Seat Expected On June 25

The US Senate is expected to vote Tuesday to confirm John Kerry as Secretary of State setting the stage for a special election in Massachusetts.

Governor Deval Patrick says he’s prepared to name an interim senator on Wednesday and set the date for the special election.  Secretary of  State William Galvin says under the timetable spelled out in state law, the special election will be on June 25th. Party primaries, if necessary would be April 30th.  Patrick has said the person he appoints to temporarily fill the vacancy will not be a candidate in the special election. So far, the only announced candidate is Democratic Congressman Ed Markey. Former Republican Senator Scott Brown has been silent on whether he intends to run.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts.
