Last November, Republican Elise Stefanik was elected to represent New York’s sprawling 21st Congressional district, becoming the youngest woman ever to walk the halls of Congress. Less than a year into her term, she faces a Democratic challenger. On July 1st retired Army Colonel Mike Derrick announced he was running for the seat. Derrick tells WAMC North Country Bureau Chief he is encouraged about his chances as he travels the district.
At its August 30th meeting, the Essex County Democratic Committee unanimously endorsed Mike Derrick for New York’s 21st Congressional district seat.
