WAMC/Pat Bradley

Groups and communities working to prevent invasive species from entering Lake George received a boost from the federal government Friday.

The Lake George Park Commission received $50,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to help pay for the installation of two new boat washing stations.

Village of Lake George  Mayor Robert Blais says communities around the lake are also pledging 350-thousand dollars to implement mandatory boat washing during 2014.

With the two new boat wash stations, the five largest points of entry to Lake George will have such facilities.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand also announced the introduction of  legislation to strengthen the ability of the federal Fish and Wildlife Service to prevent invasive species from entering the U.S.
