The two City of Albany employees are continuing to recover after they suffered serious burn injuries in a gas explosion on city property Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators aren’t sure what caused the explosion, but said it happened shortly after a gasoline leak at a temporary fuel pump.
The injured employees were Albany Fire Department Battalion Chief Wayne Brennan, and a Department of General Services supervisor whose name was not released, per their family’s request.
Fire Chief Joseph Gregory visited Brennan at the hospital in Westchester County where he’s being treated. He said Brennan suffered second and third degree burns to a third of his body. Brennan was awake, but unable to speak.
The Albany Police Department, four state agencies, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are continuing to investigate the explosion.
