New York has become the first state in the country to mandate paid prenatal leave for pregnant workers. Starting with the new year, expectant New Yorkers are now entitled to 20 hours of paid leave for prenatal check-ups, ultrasounds, and other appointments. WAMC Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Jesse King spoke with state Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon to learn more.

Jesse King is the host of WAMC's national program on women's issues, "51%," and the station's former Hudson Valley bureau chief. She has also produced episodes of the WAMC podcast "A New York Minute In History."
