The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has identified new permanent water sources for the Village of Hoosick Falls.
DEC released its report Wednesday detailing new water sources for the Rensselaer County village whose sources were contaminated by PFAS chemicals.
Under the proposed project, two new production wells would be developed on test wells south of the village. A third village well would be retained to provide redundancy.
A new transmission line would be built to connect the new wells to the village water treatment plan along public rights of way. Filtration equipment to remove potential toxic compounds from water supplies will remain operating. The village has been grappling with PFOA contamination by Saint-Gobain for more than five years.
A virtual public meeting on the proposal has been set for May 13th. A public comment period will be open through June 4th.
