A peaceful march for racial justice drew thousands to Albany Saturday afternoon. But by evening, demonstrations escalated elsewhere in the city.
Protesters clashed with police outside the city’s South Station. Some demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails and smashed windows, as police from multiple agencies used teargas and horses to disperse the crowd.
With broken glass strewn across city sidewalks and trash in the street, South End resident and activist Dannielle Hille of A Block At A Time has organized a community cleanup, set to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Members of the public are asked to bring themselves, friends, gloves, and brooms to Arch and Trinity Streets.
WAMC’s Lucas Willard spoke with Hille prior to the cleanup, who described the contrast between last night and the larger event earlier in the day.
