The New York State Board of Regents has appointed Shannon Tahoe as the Interim Commissioner of the state education department. Tahoe has been acting commissioner since mid-November following the departure of Beth Berlin.
Monday’s move is the latest leadership change at the education department. Berlin took over as interim leader in September, following the resignation of MaryEllen Elia, who held the post since 2015.
The Board of Regents says Tahoe will serve until a permanent candidate is identified.
"Under Shannon’s proven leadership and steady hand, the Department is well positioned to move forward with the Board’s priorities and ensure the smooth operation of the day-to-day activities of the Department," said Board of Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa in a statement Monday afternoon.
