New Saratoga Springs Police Chief Selected

Saratoga Springs will have a new police chief starting September 7th.

Public Safety Commissioner Peter Martin announced Wednesday that Lieutenant Shane Crooks has been tapped to take over for Greg Veitch, who retired in May.

According to Martin, Crooks is a 15-year veteran of the Saratoga Springs Police Department, previously working as a patrol officer, investigator, and sergeant. He also spent six years with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department.

Acting Police Chief John Catone will remain on the force and will work with Crooks for the month of September.

Veitch stepped down May 31st after six years as chief and more than two decades on the force.
