Limo Safety Measures Anticipated In NY State Budget

After a stretch limousine ban was dropped from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s state budget proposal earlier this year, some limousine and bus safety measures will likely be included in the state budget that is due April 1st.

A handful of bills focused on limousine safety have been introduced by lawmakers following the October limousine crash in Schoharie that killed 20.

Counsel to the Governor Alphonso David told reporters Friday that negotiations are continuing to finalize a limousine and bus safety proposal.

“We anticipate that there will be increased criminal penalties for those that knowingly violate the law and operate limousines or buses that are out of service or labeled to be out of service. There will be increased civil penalties as well, and there will be additional requirements that anyone who is operating a commercial vehicle has to register and go through testing," said David.
