Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat from New York’s 18th District, has ended speculation by announcing he is running for state attorney general.
Maloney, a three-term congressman, says he is not yet abandoning his re-election bid for Congress. Maloney is facing three other Democrats including New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, who won the endorsement of state Democrats at their convention last month. Also running are former gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout and Leecia Eve, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton and Governor Andrew Cuomo. They’re set to face off in a September primary.
State Republicans are backing attorney Keith Wofford in the race.
Barbara Underwood is the current attorney general, having taken over after disgraced Democrat Eric Schneiderman resigned in May following allegations of physical abuse.
