Gov. Cuomo Details Plan To Improve Access To Woodbury Common

Gov. Cuomo
Governor Cuomo spoke at the NYS Thruway Authority Harriman Maintenance Facility in Woodbury.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, and state transportation officials detailed plans to improve access to the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Orange County on Sunday.

The long-planned project has been named the Town of Woodbury Transit and Economic Development Hub. The plan would reconfigure the Route 17 Exit 131 east bound ramp to the New York State Thruway, improving access to the outlet mall. The plan would also replace the Route 32 bridge over Route 17 to allow more truck traffic and  reconstruct and expand park-and-ride facilities to promote public transit.

Other improvements include a new interconnected traffic signalization system along Route 32 and a multi-use bicycle and pedestrian path.

Governor Cuomo explained that the work ties into other economic development projects in the region, including the incoming Montreign Resort Casino.

“Montreign is going to open, it’s going to do great. It’s going to synergize with Stewart Airport, it’s going to synergize with Woodbury Commons, it’s going to synergize with Legoland. And these pieces start to come together and one builds and one grows on the other. And now we’re going the roadway and the access so people can get here,” said Cuomo.

Officials say they hope to get a shovel in the ground this November.
