U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is touring upstate New York Sunday.
Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will tour Stratton Air National Guard Base in Schenectady County where she is scheduled to receive a briefing from officials with the New York National Guard and 109th Airlift Wing.
The Democrat is due to discuss the importance of the 109th’s Antarctic mission and the growing importance of the Arctic. The Airlift Wing flies ski-equipped C-130s, allowing the planes to take off and land on ice and snowpack.
Later Sunday she will visit the Indoor Organic Gardens of Poughkeepsie to discuss efforts to provide locally grown food to schools and seniors.
