Albany Police Identify Nightclub Shooting Suspect

Police have identified a suspect in a fatal shooting inside an Albany nightclub in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving.

One man was killed and three others injured inside the Rocks nightclub on Central Avenue.

Albany Police Chief Brendan Cox says his department suspects Kareem Blacknall was the shooter. Blacknall was arrested on a separate charge earlier this week and remains in Albany County Jail.

Cox spoke to reporters Wednesday evening.

“I am confident that we have the right person in this case. I am confident that grand jury proceeding that happened [Wednesday] will bring the indictment down, and I am confident that we have the evidence that we need to work with the District Attorney’s office to secure a conviction, and Mr. Blacknall will go away to prison which is where he belongs for committing that heinous crime on Thanksgiving morning,” said Cox.

Cox predicts an indictment from a grand jury could be handed down Monday. He believes the crime may be group or gang-related but does not suspect the shooting has any connection to a shooting incident inside Crossgates Mall on November 12th.
