Lake George Village Board Seeks Fireworks Ban

Wikimedia Commons

The Lake George Village Board is calling for Warren County supervisors to repeal legislation allowing the sale of small fireworks.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports fireworks have resulted in numerous complaints in the Adirondack resort town, as well as played a role in two local fires — one damaging a Kingsbury home and another in a truck in which a man placed spent fireworks that rekindled.

State law allows for certain types of small fireworks to be sold between the periods of June 1 to July 5 and Dec. 26 to Jan. 2 for counties that opt in.

A municipality cannot ban the sale or use of fireworks in a county that opted in.

Small fireworks remain banned in approximately half of New York's 62 counties and New York City.
