David Sweat Released From Albany Medical Center

Prison escapee David Sweat has been released from Albany Medical Center, where he was being held after his capture one week ago in the Northern New York community of Constable.

Sweat was shot twice by a state police officer upon his capture.

New York's Department of Corrections and Community Supervision says Sweat was released from Albany Medical Center at 3:05 a.m. Sunday and is now being held at the Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County. Details of his transportation were not disclosed for security reasons.

The department said Sweat will remain in the infirmary during the initial 24 hour period for a medical evaluation.

Sweat, along with fellow escapee Richard Matt, was the subject of a weeks-long manhunt after the pair cut their way out of the maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility at Dannemora on June 6th.

Matt was shot and killed by a border patrol officer on June 26th.
