NY Native To Finish Historic Entire Length Swim Of Mohawk River

Christopher Swain

Thousands of students are following the journey of a New Yorker about to finish an historic swim of entire length of the Mohawk River.

Christopher Swain, a swimmer and a teacher, born in NYC, based in Massachusetts, will become first person in history to swim the entire length of the Mohawk River. Swain has swum through 150+ miles of wilderness, rapids, blizzards, waterfalls, industrial outfalls, contaminated city runoff, trash, and sewage in an effort to raise awareness of Mohawk River and the challenges it faces. He has also mapped the temperature and the pH of the entire Mohawk River, to support the work of science teachers and their students in throughout the Northeast.

Swain is set to complete his swim around 10:30 Wednesday morning near the Troy Motorboat and Canoe Club, by stroking out of the mouth of the Mohawk River and then across the Hudson River.
