The mayor of Glens Falls addressed concerns over the stalled opening of the city’s Code Blue shelter, which is currently awaiting approval from the city’s planning board.

The Open Door Mission is seeking to open a Code Blue shelter at 103 Warren Street. The location was also used last year, but after going up for sale, it left the Mission scrambling for a new place. In October, the Open Door was given permission to lease the site. Now, the Mission has submitted paperwork and will appear before the planning board in December.

Mayor “Jack” Diamond said the Mission is going through the necessary steps.

“We need to know the business operations, we need to know how many people are going to be there. There’s a lot of questions to get asked. You can’t just throw a shingle out on the door and say ‘We’re open for business.’”

Diamond said the city has been working with the Mission since January.
