New York State Senator Greg Ball announced that he will not seek another term for New York’s 40th senate district. Ball has held the seat since 2011. He served in the state assembly from 2007 through 2010. The Senator says he wants to return to the private sector and find time to raise a family. He says he will remain active in this campaign cycle but didn’t want to abandon the seat in 2016, when the presidential election will be the main focus on the ballot. Ball had been considered a possible candidate for Putnam County executive, but says he is not seeking any office. Terrence Murphy is slated to run for Ball's seat in the upcoming election.
