New Sex Offender Laws in New York

NYS Capitol

New sex offender laws have been signed by New York’s governor.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the new laws will allow the state to better protect the public and track sex offenders when they threaten society. Deputy Secretary for Public Safety Elizabeth Glazer says the state has initiated a series of reforms to strengthen safeguards against sex offenders that the new laws enhance.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi sponsored the measure requiring updated sex offender photographs.

Commissioner of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, formerly known as Parole, Brian Fischer says here is a process that agencies use to deal with sex offenders.

New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico said the new laws will aid law enforcement.

The updated photo bill and the Parole transcript laws are effective in 30 days.  The mandate to notify law enforcement officials about investigations of complaints of sexual misconduct against a licensed health care provider took immediate effect.
