A letter made available to The Associated Press says an investigation prompted by a Kennedy heir's attempt to take his infant son from a New York maternity ward has found no evidence of child abuse. WAMC's Dave Lucas reports...
The March 30 letter from the state child protection agency says a report of suspected child abuse against Douglas Kennedy, the son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, was determined to be unfounded.
The letter was provided to the AP on Tuesday by a person familiar with the case. The person acted on the condition of anonymity because the decision has not yet been made public.
The state agency investigated after Kennedy was charged with child endangerment in February. The charge stemmed from a Jan. 7 incident at the hospital. Kennedy said he wanted the baby to get fresh air, but nurses objected.
Kennedy's lawyer says the finding does not directly relate to the child endangerment charge and he hopes prosecutors will consider it and dismiss the charge.
Kennedy is also accused of harassing two nurses in the incident.
