Albany, NY – Well Alabama has won its second BCS national championship in three seasons...

Last night in New Orleans, avenging a 9-6 overtime loss to LSU in its only defeat two months ago, the Crimson Tide turned in a suffocating defensive effort in blanking the previously unbeaten Tigers 21-0 in the BCS national championship.

Alabama's defense held LSU to just 92 total yards and five first downs. It's the first shutout in BCS title game history.

Jeremy Shelley kicked field goals of 23, 34, 41, 35 and 44 yards. Trent Richardson produced the exclamation point. Sound courtesy of ESPN.

In baseball news, Barry Larkin has been elected to baseball's Hall of Fame. The former Cincinnati shortstop batted .295 and slugged 198 home runs during his 19-year career.

To the ice, Florida skated past Vancouver 2-1, and Los Angeles whipped Washington 5-2.

To Top 25 college hoops, U-Conn downed Virginia 64-57 and Cincinnati upset Georgetown 68-64.

Only one game on the Women's side, Miami rolled over Georgia Tech 77-65.

To the NBA, last night in New York, Amare Stoudemire netted 25, Carmelo Anthony chipped in 22, as the Knicks got by Bobcats 91-87.

In New Jersey, Josh Smith scored 26 as the Hawks soared past the Nets 106-101.

Elsewhere, Chicago blew out Detroit 92-68, New Orleans dumped Denver 94-81, Toronto topped Minnesota 97-87, and Philadelphia held off Indiana 96-86.

And in NFL news, Chiefs interim head coach Romeo Crennel has had the interim tag removed - he's the new head coach of Kansas City.
