Troy, NY – A Troy police officer has suffered leg wounds after being stabbed while confronting a suspect. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
Police department spokesman Captain John Cooney said Officer Michael Johnson was being treated at a hospital Wednesday night for non-life threatening injuries. He says Johnson, who has been on the force for fewer than 10 years, also suffered facial and head cuts.
Cooney told The Times Union that Johnson was patrolling near the Martin Luther King apartments at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when got into a chase, and then a confrontation, with a suspect.
Initial reports were of shots fired and an officer down, but Cooney says it now appears that it was Johnson who discharged his weapon.
It was not immediately known if the suspect, who remains at-large, was hit.
