Last night in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, Purdue recovered two onside kicks and returned a kickoff 99 yards to paydirt, all before the half, as Purdue hung on in the second half to beat Western Michigan 37-32. Both teams finished 7-6.
In the Belk Bowl, Mike Glennon threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns, as NC State dumped Louisville 31-24. The Wolfpack finished 8-5, while the Cardinals wound up 7-6.
To the NBA, last night in South Beach, Lebron James scored 26 points, rookie Norris Cole added 14 of his 20 in the fourth, as the Heat nearly blew a 20-point lead before beating the Celtics 115-107.
In New Jersey, Marvin Williams netted 14, one of six Atlanta players in double figures, as the Hawks soared over the Nets 106-70.
Elsewhere, the Lakers routed Utah 96-71, Milwaukee held off Minnesota 98-95, and Portland pounded Sacramento 101-79.
To Top 25 college hoops, Notre Dame blew out Pittsburgh 72-59, Wisconsin whipped Nebraska 64-40, and Virginia downed Maryland-Eastern Shore 69-42.
To the ice, Detroit dumped St. Louis 3-2, Montreal routed Ottawa 6-2, Pittsburgh doubled up Carolina 4-2, Florida skated past Toronto 5-3, Tampa Bay topped Philadelphia 5-1, Winnipeg dropped Colorado 4-1, and Calgary edged Columbus 2-1 in a shootout.
And sad news out of Toronto, four-time Stanley Cup champion Johnny Wilson has died - he was 82. Wilson spent 11 years in the NHL with Detroit, Toronto, Chicago and the New York Rangers. He also coached seven seasons in the NHL.
