White Plains, NY – That economic recovery we've all been hoping for may be on the horizon - jobs are becoming available - The New York state Labor Department says the Hudson Valley's labor market is slowly rebounding from the effects of the recession. Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports.
Private sector employment in the Hudson Valley region increased 5,400 or 0.7 percent, to 737,500 for the 12 month period ending November 2011. Johnny Nelson is the Labor Market Analyst for the Hudson Valley Region with the New York State Labor Department. He says the region's labor market is slowly rebounding from the effects of the recession.
The Dutchess-Orange MSA declined by 0.7 percent. Sullivan County employment year over year in November rose by 0.5 percent while Ulster County grew by just under one percent. There was no change in Greene County and a drop of 0.7 percent in Columbia County. Dan Moran from Next-Act of Colonie says the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region appear to be going in different directions. Employment analysts note that both the Hudson Valley and Capital Region have a variety of locally-centered initiatives and projects which should help boost the job numbers as we go through 2012.
