Albany, NY – The Adirondack Park Agency oversees land use in the six-million acre park. On Wednesday Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the appointment of Lani Ulrich as Chairwoman and Sherman Craig as a commissioner. Ulrich, of Old Forge, has worked with various organizations within the park and was first appointed to the APA in 2004. Sherman Craig is a retired teacher and school administrator, and owns a woodworking business in the Adirondacks. Their appointments are being praised by Park interests. Adirondack Council Spokesman John Sheehan.

Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages President Brian Towers is Supervisor of the Town of Wells.

Adirondack Mountain Club Executive Director Neil Woodworth has worked with Lani Ulrich on the Common Ground Alliance.

It's expected the biggest challenge the new appointees will face is the Adirondack Club and Resort development project, one of the largest ever to be reviewed by the agency. Adirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve Partner Dave Gibson.

Adirondack Park Local Government Review Board Executive Director Fred Monroe says Sherman Craig appears to have a balanced outlook and they supported Ulrich's nomination as chair.

The APA was established in 1971 to develop land-use plans for public and private parcel within the Park. The Board has 11 members.
