Well the stakes were smaller yesterday, but the outcome? Similar.
In Foxboro, Eli Manning threw a one-yard strike to tight end Jake Ballard with just 15 seconds left on the clock, lifting the Giants over the Pats 24-20. New York improves to 6-2 and maintains a two-game lead in the NFC East; New England slips to 5-3.
In Buffalo, Mark Sanchez threw for 230 yards and a score, as the Jets extended their winning streak to three with a 27-11 win over the Bills. The Jets, Bills, and Pats are all now 5-3, creating a logjam atop the AFC East.
Elsewhere, the Packers remain perfect, beating the Chargers 45-38; Baltimore bounced Pittsburgh 23-20; Cincinnati dumped Tennessee 24-17; Miami finally gets into the win column, routing Kansas City 31-3; Denver dropped Oakland 38-24; New Orleans got by Tampa Bay 27-16; San Francisco edged Washington 19-11; Houston hammered Cleveland 30-12; Dallas downed Seattle 23-13; Arizona rallied to beat St. Louis 19-13 in OT; and the Colts remain winless following their 31-7 loss to Atlanta.
In NBA news, Commissioner David Stern has given the union until Wednesday to accept a deal, that offers players up to 51 percent of basketball-related income, a figure that the union insists is fiction. Regardless, it will drop to 47 percent Wednesday, if players don't accept the current offer by the league-imposed deadline.
On the ice, in New York, Marian Gaborik scored twice and Derek Stepan had a goal and an assist, as the Rangers shutout Winnipeg 3-0.
Elsewhere, Vancouver skated past Chicago 6-2, Tampa Bay held off Florida 4-3, Dallas downed Carolina 5-2, and Calgary beat Colorado 2-1.
And at the New York City Marathon, Geoffrey Mutai won the race in style, shattering the course record by more than 2 1/2 minutes, finishing with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 6 seconds. Firehiwot Dado won the women's race in 2 hours, 23 minutes, 15 seconds.
