Poughkeepsie, NY – Some utility customers in Hudson Valley towns hardest hit by the weekend snow may not get their lights back on for up to a week. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
Hundreds of extra repair personnel are heading to the lower Hudson Valley, New York City and the city's northern suburbs to help Con Edison and Central Hudson crews working to restore electric service in the aftermath of Saturday night's heavy snowfall. The wet snow brought down limbs and power lines across southeastern New York.
Central Hudson says an estimated 156,000 of its customers, half of all those served, lost power during the storm. That makes it one of the three worst storms in the utility's century-long history. A spokesman says it may take up to a week to get all back in service.
