New Paltz, NY – The latest New York consumer confidence poll from the Siena Research Institute came out this morning, and the news is mixed: Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Dave Lucas explains...
Overall Consumer Confidence for the third quarter of 2011 increased in just one of nine regions of New York State that factor into the Siena College Research Institute's Quarterly Consumer Confidence survey.
Good Albany numbers are rippling through all parts of the business community - NextAct's Dan Moran says "that's postive news for job -seekers".
"Let's recap, debt ceiling crisis, national political turmoil, Europe hanging by a thread, Wall Street roller coaster and no new jobs in sight, no surprise the third quarter saw confidence drop in almost every region in New York," according to Dr. Douglas Lonnstrom, professor of statistics and finance at Siena College and SRI Founding Director. "While Albany is far from a robust economy, the capital region stands alone this quarter with an increase in current confidence. Most concerning is the universal decline in future confidence this quarter with huge drops in Binghamton, NYC, Utica and Mid-Hudson".
However, it appears the Hudson Valley may be a step ahead of the Siena Poll findings: Mike Morosi is Communications Director for Congressman Maurice Hinchey; he says there are many new economic incentives in Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties.
Doug Lonnstrom says the Utica area is next to last in the new Siena survey. The SRI survey was conducted by random telephone calls to over 400 adults over the age of 18.
