Albany, NY – Well Tampa Bay has crept closer...
Last night in Boston, the opener of a four-game set between the Rays and Red Sox, Evan Longoria launched a three-run homer, as Tampa Bay blasted the BoSox 9-2. The Rays now trail the Red Sox by just three games in the wild card race.
In other AL action, Oakland downed Detroit 6-1, Texas topped Cleveland 7-4, and Kansas City routed the White Sox 7-2.
Over to the NL, in Queens, Ian Desmond had a career-high five hits, driving in three, as the Nationals hammered the Mets 10-1, completing a four-game series sweep. New York has fallen to fourth place in the NL East.
In Colorado, Pablo Sandoval hit for the cycle - the Giants outlasted the Rockies 8-5.
Elsewhere, Cincinnati dumped the Cubs 8-6, and Philadelphia swept a doubleheader from Florida, 2-1 in 10, and 3-1.

"They (Mississippi State) play with a great intensity, they're very physical, they've got great speed to the ball," said Miles. "We didn't play perfectly tonight, there's some things that we'll work on to correct, but if (we) continue to play with a great effort and hustle that (we) showed tonight, we'll be pretty special."

To the NBA, where labor peace has been reached... But, it's got nothing to do with the players. The NBA and its referee have agreed to a new five-year contract. On the players' side, union president Derek Fisher says his members remain unified and calm, in what could be a lengthy pursuit of a labor agreement between owners and players.
