Albany, NY – Well the NFL season is officially underway...
Last night in Green Bay, the reigning Super Bowl champion Packers needed a gritty, goal line stop on the final play to preserve a 42-34 win over New Orleans. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns, including one to rookie Randall Cobb, who also ran back a kickoff 108 yards for a score - tying the NFL record for longest kickoff return in history.
In other NFL news, the Colts say quarterback Peyton Manning has undergone another neck surgery, and there's no timetable for his return.
To baseball, yesterday in Baltimore, Robert Andino singled home the winning run in the 10th, as the Birds beat New York 5-4.
In Toronto, J.P. Arencibia connected on a three-run shot, as the Blue Jays bounced Boston 7-4.
Elsewhere in the AL, the White Sox blasted Cleveland 8-1, and Seattle dropped Kansas City 4-1.
Over to the NL, in Queens, Atlanta completed a doubleheader sweep of the Mets, winning the opener 6-5, and the nightcap 5-1.
Elsewhere, Arizona dropped San Diego 4-1, Philadelphia dumped Milwaukee 7-2, and the Dodgers whipped Washington 7-4.
And in tennis, at the U.S. Open, Andy Roddick upset David Ferrer in four sets, advancing to the Men's quarterfinals. John Isner, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray have also made it through to the quarters. Top seed Novak Djokovic has advanced to the semifinals, eliminating Janko Tipsarevic. Dojokovic will face five-time U.S. Open champ Roger Federer, who knocked out Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets.
On the Women's side, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki both won in straight sets, setting up a semifinal showdown. Angelique Kerber has also advanced to the semis, as has Samantha Stosur, who upset Vera Zvonareva.
