The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that one northbound lane and two southbound lanes on I-87, near Interchange 17, have been temporarily blocked due to flooding.
The Albany Times-Union reports that officials in Schenectady County are keeping a close eye on the Mohawk River. A portion of the Thruway along the Mohawk is expected to be closed. Many residents in the area left overnight.
The Daily-Gazette reports that widespread flooding in Schoharie County, including the Cobleskill Creek inundating Route 7, triggered a new round of evacuations in the area.
Additional evacuations have been ordered in Binghamton neighborhoods near the Susquehanna River because of worsening flooding.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office tells WAMC there are no new evacuations in the county this morning. A voluntary evacuation order was already in effect for Prattsville, New York yesterday.
At SUNY Cobleskill, classes have been canceled after 300 students were evacuated from their first floor dormitories because of flooding.
SUNY Oneonta has also cancelled classes.
In addition, dozens of school districts in Eastern New York are closed.
Flood watches and warnings remain in effect for the entire WAMC listening area, as another one to two inches of rain is expected to fall across the region today and into Friday.
