Albany, NY – Well C.C. Sabathia and the Yankees hadn't had much success against the Red Sox this year... until last night.

Sabathia was 0-4 with a 7.20 ERA versus Boston, before holding them to two runs over six innings, as the Yankees dumped the Red Sox 5-2 at Fenway. It's only New York's third win in 13 meetings against the Sox this year, and the outcome places the Yankees within a half game of the Red Sox in the division.

Elsewhere in the AL, Detroit got by Kansas City 2-1 in 10, the White Sox outlasted Minnesota 8-6, Cleveland clipped Oakland 6-2, Texas blanked Tampa Bay 2-0, the Angels pounded Seattle 13-6, and Baltimore bounced Toronto 6-5 in 10.

Over to the NL, in Queens, Javier Vazquez scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings, as Florida shutout the Mets 6-0.

Elsewhere, Arizona routed Colorado 9-4, the Cubs beat San Francisco 5-2, Philadelphia blew out Cincinnati 9-0, Washington whipped Atlanta 9-2, St. Louis topped Milwaukee 2-1, the Dodgers downed San Diego 8-5, and Houston hammered Pittsburgh 8-2.

In NFL news, 49ers running back Frank Gore has agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension worth $21 million, with $13.5 million guaranteed.

In NBA news, new details are emerging about an NBA player charged with murdering a mother of four. A police report says Javaris Crittenton was robbed of $55,000 worth of jewelry back in April, and authorities say Crittenton was retaliating when he shot Jullian Jones, but they say she was not the intended target. Crittenton was arrested Monday at a Southern California airport.

And in tennis, the U.S. Open continued yesterday at Flushing Meadows...

On the Men's side, top seed Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all won their opening round matches.

On the Women's side, French Open champion Li Na was upset by Simona Halep in straight sets. Top seed Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka, Francesca Schiavone, and Serena Williams breezed into Round Two.
