Albany, NY – Well the Yankees lead in the American League East remains just a half game...
Last night in Minnesota, Mark Teixeira, Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones all homered in support of C.C. Sabathia, who picks up his 17th win, as the Yankees rolled 8-4 over the Twins.
In Kansas City, Dustin Pedroia went 3 for 4, driving in three, as the Red Sox edged the Royals 4-3.
Elsewhere in the AL, Cleveland doubled up the White Sox 4-2, the Angels got by Texas 2-1, and Toronto shutout Oakland 7-0.
Over to the NL, Atlanta blanked San Francisco 3-0, the Dodgers topped Milwaukee 5-1, Philadelphia downed Arizona 4-1, Washington dropped Cincinnati 3-1, and San Diego trimmed Florida 3-1.
In other baseball news, Mike Jacobs has become the first player suspended by Major League Baseball for a positive human growth hormone test, under the sport's minor league drug testing procedures. The 30-year-old was handed a 50-game suspension, and was subsequently released by the Rockies. Jacobs says he took HGH to overcome knee and back injuries.
Alex Rodriguez has rejoined the New York Yankees _ but he's not quite ready to play. Manager Joe Girardi says the earliest he would play would be tomorrow night.
And the Red Sox have placed third baseman Kevin Youkilis on the DL with a back injury.
In NFL news, the league has cleared former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor to be entered into Monday's supplemental draft. However, Prior must sit out the first five games after he signs a contract.
In preseason action, the Patriots steamrolled the Buccaneers 31-17, and the Steelers dumped the Eagles 24-14.
And in college basketball, an ugly, benches-clearing brawl between Georgetown and a Chinese basketball team brought a premature end to an exhibition game overseas. Coincidentally, the Hoyas are in China on a goodwill trip.
