Albany, NY – Well it wasn't a Happy Birthday for Jorge...

Last night in Kansas City, the Yankees loaded the bases in the ninth. But Jorge Posada, on his 40th birthday, watched a called third strike zip by, ending the Yankees comeback bid against the Royals, 5-4.

At Fenway, David Price scattered three hits over eight innings, as the Rays stung the Red Sox 4-0. Boston trails New York by a half game in the division.

Elsewhere in the AL, Texas edged the Angels 4-3, Cleveland clipped the White Sox 4-1, Minnesota beat Detroit 6-5, Oakland bounced Baltimore 6-5, and Toronto downed Seattle 5-1.

Over to the NL, in San Diego, where David Wright launched a three-run bomb and also flashed some leather, as the Mets dumped the Padres 7-3. It's New York's first series win in San Diego in more than nine years.

Elsewhere, San Francisco held off Atlanta 7-5, Philadelphia hammered Arizona 9-2, Cincinnati nipped Washington 2-1, Milwaukee got by the Dodgers 3-1, Colorado crushed Florida 12-5, St. Louis ripped Pittsburgh 7-2, and Houston downed the Cubs 4-3.

In other baseball news, Giants closer Brian Wilson will visit Dr. Andrews today to have his ailing right elbow checked out, Alex Rodriguez has ruled himself out for the Yankees four-game series at Minnesota which starts tonight, and Nationals phenom Stephen Strasburg was rocked yesterday in his third rehab start since having Tommy John surgery.

In college football news, the NCAA says it has been investigating the relationship between a convicted Ponzi scheme artist and the University of Miami for five months.

Former booster Nevin Shapiro says he provided improper benefits to 72 football players and other athletes at Miami from 2002 to 2010. NCAA president Mark Emmert says if the allegations are true, it demonstrates the need for serious and fundamental change.

The Hurricanes' entire football team took the practice field yesterday, even though Shapiro's claims involve several current players.

And in NFL news, Lions defensive end Ndamukong Suh has been fined $20,000 dollars for a hit on Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. He plans to appeal the fine.
