Albany, NY – Well the Yankees are back in first...

Last night in Kansas City, Robinson Cano launched a three-run bomb into the fountains at Kauffman Stadium, giving the Yankees a 9-7 win over the Royals.

In Boston, the Red Sox split a double-header with the Rays. In the opener, Jacoby Ellsbury's three-run shot powered Boston over Tampa Bay 3-1. In the nightcap, Jeff Niemann fired a three-hitter, fanning ten, as the Rays topped the Red Sox 6-2. The Yankees move a half game ahead of the Boston in the American League East.

Elsewhere in the AL, Detroit breezed past Minnesota 7-1, Texas downed the Angels 7-3, the White Sox edged Cleveland 8-7 in 14, Oakland doubled up Baltimore 8-4, and Toronto trounced Seattle 13-7.

Over to the NL, in San Diego, Orlando Hudson's two-run single in the first proved more than enough, as the Padres beat the Mets 6-1.

Elsewhere, Arizona rallied past Philadelphia 3-2, Atlanta dropped San Francisco 2-1 in 11, Pittsburgh dumped St. Louis 5-4, Milwaukee beat the Dodgers 2-1, Houston got by the Cubs 6-5, Florida held off Colorado 6-5, and Washington bounced Cincinnati 6-4.

In college football, Nevin Shapiro, a former Miami booster who's serving a 20-year prison sentence for masterminding a $930 million Ponzi scheme, has told Yahoo! Sports he provided impermissible benefits to 72 of the university's football players and other athletes between 2002 and 2010.

Shapiro says he gave money, cars, jewelry, televisions and other gifts to a list of players including Vince Wilfork, Jon Beason, Antrel Rolle, Devin Hester, Willis McGahee, and Sean Taylor.

Shapiro also claims he paid for nightclub outings, sex parties, restaurant meals and in one case, an abortion for a woman impregnated by a player.

In NFL news, Jets offensive lineman Robert Turner has suffered a broken right leg and will undergo surgery later this week.

And the NFL supplemental draft originally scheduled for today, has been postponed. No date has been re-scheduled.
