Last night in Minnesota, Darnell McDonald's two-run shot helped power the Red Sox over the Twins 4-3.
In the Bronx, former Yankee Bobby Abreu homered twice, the second a two-run shot off Mariano Rivera in the ninth, as the Angels sank the Yankees 6-4. New York is on its first three-game losing streak since early June, and now trails Boston by two and a half.
Elsewhere in the AL, Cleveland outlasted Detroit 3-2 in 14, Texas got by Seattle 7-6, the White Sox beat Baltimore 4-3, Tampa Bay blanked Kansas City 4-0, and Oakland held off Toronto 4-1.
Over to the NL, in Queens, Ruben Tejada drew a bases loaded walk, forcing home the tie-breaking run in the eighth, as the Mets beat San Diego 5-4.
In Los Angeles, Cliff Lee fired four-hit ball over eight scoreless innings, fanning ten, as well as hitting his second home run of the season, as Philadelphia downed the Dodgers 2-1.
Elsewhere, San Francisco blanked Pittsburgh 6-0, Arizona rallied past Houston 11-9, Milwaukee dropped St. Louis 5-3 in 10, Colorado clipped Cincinnati 3-2, Washington topped the Cubs 3-1, and Atlanta beat Florida 4-3 - Braves second baseman Dan Uggla has hit safely in 30 consecutive games.
In college football news, Penn State coach Joe Paterno has been released from the hospital, two days after getting blindsided during practice by a player. The 84-year-old fractured his pelvis, and injured his right shoulder.
And in NBA news, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade has decided he can't take a year away from basketball. And if the NBA goes that route, Wade will likely take his talents overseas.
