Albany, NY – Well "Big Papi" had a huge night against his former team...

Last night in Minnesota, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz went 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs, including the go-ahead single with two outs in the ninth, as Boston dumped the Twins 8-6. Ortiz finished a triple shy of the cycle.

Elsewhere in the AL, the White Sox edged Baltimore 7-6, Texas trounced Seattle 9-2, and Tampa Bay beat Kansas City 2-1.

Over to the NL, in Queens, Lucas Duda's two-run single capped a three run ninth, as the Mets rallied to beat Heath Bell and the Padres 9-8. Before the game, New York placed shortstop Jose Reyes on the DL with a hamstring injury.

Elsewhere, Pittsburgh blanked San Francisco 5-0, Philadelphia downed the Dodgers 5-3, Atlanta got by Florida 8-5, Colorado dropped Cincinnati 10-7, Houston hammered Arizona 9-1, and the Nationals-Cubs contest was washed out at Wrigley.

In NFL news, Eagles' wide out DeSean Jackson has ended his holdout and reported to camp, the Ravens and running back Ricky Williams have reached a contract agreement, Lions' running back Mikel Leshoure is done for the season after tearing his Achilles tendon, and Cardinals' safety Adrian Wilson has a torn biceps tendon, but he hopes to play through the injury and avoid surgery.

In NBA news, LeBron James says he is so "optimistic" that the coming NBA season will be played that he is not considering any possible international options - except for the 2012 Olympics. James says he is committed to helping the U.S. defend its gold medal at next summer's London Games.

And in swimming, a Twitter feed for marathon swimmer Diana Nyad says she has ended her attempt at a record-setting swim from Cuba to Florida after 29 hours. Heavy winds were apparently part of the reason the 61-year-old stopped the 103-mile journey.
