Lower Hudson Valley Democratic Congressman Eliot Engel voted no on the deal reached to raise the nation's debt ceiling. Engel has doubts about the significant cuts that a bipartisan committee will consider later this year...
"Once you start having these automatic cuts, which is what I predict will happen, and you just kind of don't know where it's going to end," said Engel. "To me, that's buying a pig in a poke."
Hudson Valley Republican Nan Hayworth voted yes on the debt deal that passed the House. Hayworth sees opportunities to reduce spending...
"We do have a lot of opportunity within the non-defense discretionary area," said Hayworth. "There are whole departments of the federal government that do not provide a net benefit to the taxpayers."
Among representatives in the Hudson Valley, Republican Chris Gibson voted yes.
Democratic Congressman Maurice Hinchey did not vote, as he recovers from cancer surgery. In a statement, Hinchey said he does not support the plan.
