Albany, NY – Well the wild, NFL free agency continues...
Among the wheeling and dealing yesterday... Philadelphia has traded quarterback Kevin Kolb to Arizona, in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round pick. New England has acquired defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth from Washington for a fifth round draft pick, the Patriots also traded for wide-out Chad Ochocinco from Cincinnati for a fifth and a sixth, New Orleans has shipped running back Reggie Bush to Miami, the Giants have re-signed defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, Buffalo has signed former Jets wide receiver Brad Smith, Tennessee has released quarterback Vince Young, and San Francisco has cut cornerback Nate Clements.
To baseball, at Fenway, Billy Butler launched a three-run bomb, as Kansas City nipped Boston 4-3. The Red Sox lead the AL East by 2 and a half games over the idle Yankees.
In other AL action, Toronto topped Baltimore 8-5, Texas dropped Minnesota 4-1, Tampa Bay rallied past Oakland 10-8, and the Angels pounded Detroit 12-7.
Over to the NL, in Cincinnati, Lucas Duda and Jason Bay each drove in three runs with bases-loaded doubles, as the Mets finished off a four-game sweep of the Reds 10-9.
Elsewhere, Pittsburgh got by Atlanta 5-2, Milwaukee doubled up the Cubs 4-2, Houston held off St. Louis 5-3, Florida downed Washington 5-2, San Diego edged Arizona 4-3, and San Francisco beat Philadelphia 4-1... Carlos Beltran went 0-4 in his Giants' debut.
In other baseball news, former Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu has been found dead. The 42-year-old apparently committed suicide following a split with his wife.
In NHL news, the Devils have acquired forward Trent Hunter from the Islanders in exchange for forward Brian Rolston.
And in soccer news, Bob Bradley has been fired as head coach of the U.S. men's national team after five years. The Americans are coming off a poor showing in the Gold Cup, including a stunning 2-1 loss to Panama and a 4-2 loss in the championship game against Mexico.
