Albany, NY – Well a no-no for a halo...
Last night in Cleveland, Ervin Santana tossed the first no-hitter for the Angels in nearly 27 years, as L.A. topped the Indians 3-1.
In the Bronx, Dustin Ackley had three hits and drove in three, as Seattle snapped its 17-game losing skid with a 9-2 drubbing of the Yankees.
At Fenway, David Ortiz's grand slam capped a five-run fourth, as the Red Sox blasted Kansas City 12-5.
Elsewhere in the AL, Minnesota dumped Texas 7-2, Oakland hammered Tampa Bay 13-4, Toronto blanked Baltimore 3-0, and the White Sox edged Detroit 2-1.
Over to the NL, in Cincinnati, David Wright went two for four, with a homer and four RBIs, as the Mets dropped the Reds 8-2. Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran has accepted a trade to the Giants, and a formal announcement is expected later this morning.
Elsewhere, Atlanta got by Pittsburgh 1-0, San Francisco dropped Philadelphia 2-1, Florida outlasted Washington 7-5, Houston doubled up St. Louis 4-2, Arizona nipped San Diego 4-3, Colorado clipped the Dodgers 3-1, and Milwaukee blanked the Cubs 2-0.
In NFL news, the wheeling and dealing continues... Among the deals, Tennessee has added quarterback Matt Hasslebeck, the Jets have agreed to terms with wide-out Santonio Holmes, Minnesota has traded for quarterback Donovan McNabb, running back DeAngelo Williams will re-sign with Carolina, Jacksonville has landed linebacker Paul Posluszny, and Giants coach Tom Coughlin has signed an extension through 2012.
In NBA news, sources say owners and players will resume talks toward a new collective bargaining agreement on Monday. This will be the first meeting to include Commissioner David Stern, union executive director Billy Hunter, owners and players.
And in soccer news, Manchester United beat the MLS All-Stars 4-0.
