Albany, NY – Well Seattle' losing streak continues to grow...

Last night in the Bronx, C.C. Sabathia took a perfect game into the seventh, fanning 14 batters, as the Yankees dumped the Mariners 4-1. Seattle has lost 17 straight.

At Fenway, David Ortiz had four hits, knocking in five, as Boston cruised to a 13-9 win over Kansas City.

Elsewhere in the AL, Detroit edged the White Sox 5-4, the Angels doubled up Cleveland 2-1, Texas outslugged Minnesota 9-8, Oakland downed Tampa Bay 6-1, and Baltimore blasted Toronto 12-4.

Over to the NL, in Cincinnati, Daniel Murphy went three for four, knocking in two, as the Mets topped the Reds 8-6.

Elsewhere, Philadelphia dropped San Francisco 7-2, Arizona got by San Diego 6-1, St. Louis held off Houston 3-1, Atlanta nipped Pittsburgh 4-3 in 19, Milwaukee edged the Cubs 3-2, Florida whipped Washington 11-2, and the Dodgers beat Colorado 3-2.

In NFL news, just as they were saying hello, it was time to say goodbye. Several NFL veterans have been told they will be released, including Cowboys' Marion Barber and Roy Williams, Ravens' Willis McGahee and Todd Heap, and Giants' Shaun O'Hara and Rich Seubert.

The Boston College linebacker who survived cancer, Mark Herzlich, has signed with the Giants as a free agent.

And ESPN is reporting this morning that free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress will meet with his former coach, Tom Coughlin, about a potential return to the Giants.

In NHL news, Kris Draper is retiring after 20 seasons. The 40-year-old spent the last 17 years with Detroit, helping the Red Wings win four Stanley Cups.

And Utah police say Olympic silver medalist Jeret "Speedy" Peterson has committed suicide. Peterson won the silver medal in freestyle at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He was cited for drunken driving Friday in Idaho.
