WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Albany, NY – Well all signs point to a nearing resolution of the NFL's first work stoppage since 1987. But the deal isn't done yet...

Sources say the players' executive committee has reviewed portions of a proposed deal to end the lockout, but hasn't voted on it. A full agreement in principle hasn't been completed, and another source says there's no guarantee a full document will be finished today.

To baseball in Baltimore, where Derek Lee and Mark Reynolds went back-to-back in the eighth, as the O's dumped Boston 6-2.

In Tampa, Jeremy Hellickson tossed seven strong innings, and the Rays took advantage of sloppy New York defense in their 3-2 win over the Yankees. New York continues to linger a game and a half behind Boston.

Elsewhere in the AL, Texas whitewashed the Angels 7-0, Detroit dropped Oakland 8-3, Kansas City held off the White Sox 4-2, Minnesota rallied past Cleveland 2-1, and Toronto beat Seattle 6-5 in 14.

Over to the NL, in Queens, where Daniel Murphy's two-run double put the Mets ahead for good, as they beat St. Louis 4-2.

Elsewhere, Pittsburgh blanked Cincinnati 1-0, San Francisco edged the Dodgers 5-3, San Diego shutout Florida 4-0, Philadelphia doubled up the Cubs 4-2, Colorado crushed Atlanta 12-3, Houston outlasted Washington 8-7, and Milwaukee hammered Arizona 11-3.

In NHL news, the Devils have hired Peter DeBoer as head coach, the Lightning and Steven Stamkos have agreed on a five year, $37.5 million dollar deal, and Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood has announced his retirement.

In NBA news, the league has released its complete 2011-2012 schedule, despite being in a lockout that could last months, and cause the season to be scrapped.

And in cycling, Norway's Thor Hushovd led a three-man breakaway to win a rainy 16th stage of the Tour de France. French rider Thomas Voeckler still has the race leader's yellow jersey, but he lost crucial seconds to challengers Alberto Contador and Cadel Evans.
