Albany, NY – Well it was a short night for the reigning NL Cy Young Award Winner...
Last night in Chicago, Roy Halladay barely lasted four innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits, as the Cubs dumped the Phillies 6-1. Halladay left after doubling over in the fifth because of heat fatigue.
In Queens, Clay Hensley allowed one hit in five scoreless innings, as Florida dropped the Mets 4-1.
Elsewhere in the NL, Pittsburgh blanked Cincinnati 2-0, Atlanta beat Colorado 7-4, Arizona shutout Milwaukee 3-0, San Francisco blanked the Dodgers 5-0, and Washington downed Houston 5-2,
Over to the AL, in Baltimore, Dustin Pedroia's two-run double sparked an eight-run eighth, as the Red Sox hammered the O's 15-10. Boston's won 13 of 15.
In Tampa, Russell Martin drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the top of the ninth, pushing across the go-ahead run, as the Yankees rallied to beat the Rays 5-4.
Elsewhere, the White Sox topped Kansas City 5-2, and Cleveland swept a doubleheader from Minnesota 5-2 and 6-3.
In NFL news, lawyers for the NFL and its players continue talks aimed at resolving the work stoppage. Several issues must be settled before the parties can ratify a full collective bargaining agreement, but sources say that representatives of every team are expected to meet tomorrow in Washington, in preparation for a possible vote. Owners are scheduled to hold a special meeting in Atlanta on Thursday, where they could ratify the new deal.
And in cycling, after Monday's rest, cyclists in the Tour de France are hitting the road again as they head toward the decisive stages of the three-week ride. Thomas Voeckler will be wearing the leader's yellow jersey in today's 16th stage. The Frenchman holds a two-minute lead over second-place Frank Schleck and is four minutes clear of three-time champion Alberto Contador. The tour finishes Sunday in Paris.
