Albany, NY – Well for the first time in a decade, the Yankees lost their first game following the All-Star break...

Last night in Toronto, the Blue Jays scored eight runs in the first, chasing starter Bartolo Colon after just two thirds of an inning, and they went on to hammer the Yankees 16-7. New York now trails idle Boston by one and a half games.

Elsewhere in the AL, Cleveland doubled up Detroit 8-4, Texas blanked Seattle 5-0, and Minnesota downed Kansas City 8-4.

Over to the NL, Florida got past the Cubs 6-3, Colorado crushed Milwaukee 12-3, and San Francisco dumped San Diego 6-2.

In other baseball news, a bombshell in Washington... The judge has declared a mistrial in Roger Clemens' perjury trial after prosecutors showed jurors evidence that the judge had ruled off limits. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said the former star pitcher could not be assured a fair trial after prosecutors showed jurors evidence against his orders in the second day of testimony. Walton has scheduled a September 2nd hearing to determine whether to hold a new trial.

In NFL news, significant progress on labor negotiations has raised hopes that a tentative agreement in principle could perhaps come within 24 hours. NFL owners and players met for nearly 15 hours yesterday. They will meet again later today.

In golf, the second round of the British Open is underway this morning. Thomas Bjorn, who tees off in just over five minutes from now, still leads the tournament at five under par. Three players, Darren Clark, Miguel Jimenez, and Lucas Glover, sit one shot back at four under.

And in cycling, Spanish rider Samuel Sanchez won the 12th stage of the Tour de France. Thomas Voeckler retained the overall lead as the race entered the high peaks of the Pyrenees for the first time. Luxembourg's Frank Schleck is second, 1 minute, 49 seconds off the pace. Defending champ Alberto Contador struggled up the main climb, and the Spaniard sits in seventh place, trailing by four minutes.
