Albany, NY – More details are expected today on the recommendations issued for high-volume hydraulic fracturing and natural gas exploration in New York. WAMC's Greg Fry reports...
Late Thursday, the State Department of Environmental Conservation released details of its recommendations regarding hydrofracking.
Those recommendations would keep the process away from key watershed areas and aquifers, but would also greenlight hydrofracking on private lands making up about 85% of the Marcellus Shale in New York.
Ramsay Adams heads the environmental protection organization Catskill Mountainkeeper...
"Now to have the Cuomo Administration issue their strategy for fast-tracking drilling in New York State without adequately protecting communities and the Delaware River, which provides drinking water for seven million people, it's outrageous," says Adams.
The recommendations call for implementation of an advisory panel to review impacts, monitoring, and funding issues surrounding high-volume fracturing.
