Baseball's constitution allows Commissioner Bud Selig to take control of a team that seeks Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. On Tuesday, a Delaware judge authorized the Dodgers to enter into a $150 million dollar bankruptcy financing arrangement.
On the field... In Philadelphia, Cliff Lee baffled the Red Sox, taking a no-hitter through five, as the Phillies blanked the BoSox 5-0. For Lee, it's his third straight complete game shutout, and his consecutive scoreless innings streak has reached 32.
In the Bronx, Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher each homered and knocked in four, as the Yankees knocked around Zack Greinke and the Brewers 12-2.
In Detroit, Jason Bay and Carlos Beltran each ripped grand slams, as the Mets blew out the Tigers 14-3.
Elsewhere, Atlanta topped Seattle 5-4, Tampa Bay downed Cincinnati 4-3, San Francisco swept a day-night doubleheader from the Cubs 13-7 and 6-3, Arizona edged Cleveland 6-4, Texas got by Houston 7-3, St. Louis slipped past Baltimore 6-2, Colorado dumped the White Sox 3-2, Pittsburgh nipped Toronto 7-6, Minnesota held off the Dodgers 6-4, the Angels hammered Washington 11-5, San Diego doubled up Kansas City 4-2, and Oakland Shutout Florida 1-0.
At the Women's World Cup, Lauren Cheney and Rachel Buehler each scored second-half goals, as the U.S. shut down North Korea 2-0.
And in college baseball, South Carolina has won its second straight College World Series, completing a two-game sweep of SEC-rival Florida. Michael Roth worked 7 2/3 innings on three days' rest to lead the Gamecocks past the Gators 5-2.
