New Paltz, NY – Some are questioning how the debate over marriage equality has played out in New York. WAMC's Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Greg Fry reports...

Billiam Van Roestenberg was a participant in the 2004 same-sex weddings held in New Paltz. He says this year's debate over marriage equality has been all about politics. Van Roestenberg says elected officials acted the way they have because they want to get elected again, and because they have influence, and look forward to a great deal of money being involved as part of this debate.

Judith Anderson is a co-director of the Hudson Valley Coalition for Life. She's disappointed that the conversations over same-sex marriage have mostly been on a superficial level. Anderson says it's re-defining what marriage means, and says she doesn't think it serves society to do it the way it's been handled, without in-depth discussions.

Anderson says there are profound ramifications from a decision like this.
